How to Use OCR Calculator

This Oil Consumption Rate (OCR) Calculator is designed for Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, Certifying Staff and Technicians to quickly calculate engine oil consumption using flight times recorded in the aircraft technical log.

1. Enter each flight time exactly as it appears in the tech log using the numeric keypad. Example: Enter 0215 for 2 Hours 15 Minutes.
2. Press the + button after each flight sector to add it to the total Time In Air.
3. Continue entering all flight sectors until the displayed total matches the accumulated flight time.
4. Enter the total Oil Uplifted quantity in Quarts (Qt).
5. Press the OCR button to calculate the Oil Consumption Rate.
6. The calculator converts the total flight time into decimal hours and applies:
   
   OCR = Oil Uplifted (Qt) ÷ Total Time In Air (Hours)
7. Review the OCR value in Qt/Hr along with the detailed calculation.

Example:
Flight Times: 02:15 + 01:45 + 03:20 + 00:55
Total Time In Air = 08:15 Hours (8.2500 Hr)
Oil Uplifted = 3.50 Qt
OCR = 3.50 ÷ 8.2500
OCR = 0.4242 Qt/Hr

How to Use EDTO OCR — Oil Uplifted

Use this mode when oil was uplifted during the EDTO sector. The OCR formula is the same oil-uplift formula used by the Normal OCR calculator.

1. Press ✈ EDTO OCR on the Normal OCR calculator.
2. Select YES — Oil Uplifted.
3. Enter the EDTO sector time in HHMM format. Example: 0215 = 02:15 = 2.2500 Hr.
4. Press + to set the EDTO sector time.
5. Press Oil Qt and enter the oil uplifted quantity.
6. Press OCR to calculate the EDTO Oil Consumption Rate.

Formula:

OCR = Total Oil Uplifted (Qt) ÷ Total EDTO Sector Time (Hours)

Example:
EDTO Sector Time = 02:15 = 2.2500 Hr
Oil Uplifted = 1.00 Qt
OCR = 1.00 ÷ 2.2500
OCR = 0.4444 Qt/Hr

How to Use EDTO OCR — No Oil Uplift

Use this mode when no oil was uplifted during the EDTO sector.

1. Press ✈ EDTO OCR on the Normal OCR calculator.
2. Select NO — No Oil Uplift.
3. Enter the Last Flight Time in HHMM format. Example: 0215 = 02:15 = 2.25 Hr.
4. Press + to set the Last Flight Time.
5. Press % Decrease and enter the indicated oil quantity decrease.
6. Press OCR to calculate the EDTO No Oil Uplift OCR.

Formula:

OCR = Indicated Oil Quantity Decrease (%) ÷ (Last Flight Hours × 5)

Example:
Last Flight Time = 02:15 = 2.25 Hr
Indicated Oil Quantity Decrease = 2.5%
OCR = 2.5 ÷ (2.25 × 5)
OCR = 2.5 ÷ 11.25
OCR = 0.2222
